Which Claude to use right now
Pick by the job, not by habit. This list changes when a new model changes the answer.
Opus 5.5 New
Your default.
Writing, planning, strategy, research, and code. Also all the prep work before a design pass.
Fable 5.1
Design, and only design.
The design pass itself: layout, look, and feel. It uses up your plan the fastest, so hand it a finished brief. Don't spend it on setup.
Sonnet 5
Long, repetitive jobs.
When the plan is already set and it's just a lot of steps to get through.
Haiku 4.5
Bulk busywork.
Renaming, sorting, or reformatting lots of things when no judgment is needed.
Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5 are on the way. This list will change when they land.

Newest first. Each one tells you if you need to do anything.
This is Anthropic's new everyday model. It is faster than Opus 5 and costs less to run. On Anthropic's own tests, it even beats Fable 5.1 at coding and research.
What it means for us
It replaces Opus 5 for almost all our work: writing, planning, strategy, and code. One catch. Those test wins are about code and research, not design taste. So keep Fable for the design pass itself.
What to do
In Claude Code, Opus 5.5 is now the default once your app is up to date. In the Claude app, pick Opus 5.5 from the model menu. That's it.
Sometimes Claude clicks through apps on your Mac for you. On Pro and Max plans, it now does that in the background. You can keep working while it runs.
What it means for us
This helps with jobs where Claude drives Chrome or other apps for us. There is less waiting, and you don't have to keep your hands off the mouse.
A new version of Fable, Anthropic's strongest model. It is better at long projects, and it can keep far more in mind at once.
What it means for us
We already use Fable for design. It is also the model that uses up your plan the fastest. So save it for the design pass itself. Do the prep work, like finding files and writing the brief, in Opus 5.5 first.
What to do
Nothing. If you pick Fable, you are already on 5.1.
What Claude remembers about you in chat now shows up in Cowork too, and the other way around. You can see, fix, or delete what it remembers in Settings.
What it means for us
If Claude keeps getting a fact about you wrong, fix it once in Settings. Then you don't have to keep correcting it.
Sep 15Salesforce connector (test version). Claude can now work inside Salesforce. Only useful if you run your sales there. Source

Sep 7 to 11Pop panels out into their own window. In the Claude Code desktop app, you can drag any side panel out into its own window. Nice to have, nothing to do. Source
Sep 10Smart reports for Enterprise. Usage reports for big companies on the Enterprise plan. We are not on that plan. Source
Sep 1Claude Mythos 5.1. A research model that only invited partners can use. It is not open to us. Source
Aug 24 to 28Open terminal sessions in the desktop app. Type /resume in the desktop app to pick up a session you started in the terminal. Only matters if you use the terminal. Source
